What is MIRAGE?
MIRAGE is a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded research project based at Boston University School of Medicine. The project was initiated in 1991 in order to evaluate the association between genetic and non-genetic risk factors for Alzheimer Disease (AD). Significant findings of the MIRAGE Study have been published in several journal articles.
Funding has recently been obtained from the NIH to continue the MIRAGE Study at its 12 sites in Canada, the United States, and Germany. Building upon the work that has been done during the last 11 years of this project, MIRAGE researchers will continue to investigate genetic and non-genetic risk factors for AD. In addition, researchers will use neuroimaging data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate the association between vascular risk factors and AD in individuals from different ethnic backgrounds.
It is our great hope that information from the MIRAGE Study will speed the development of new diagnostic techniques and treatments for AD.
